Why Your Grind Matters More Than You Think
Ask any experienced vaper for their one piece of advice and you'll usually hear the same thing: sort your grind out. A vaporizer extracts by moving heat through the herb, and a consistent, fluffy grind gives that heat maximum surface area to work on. The result is more even extraction, noticeably better flavour and less herb used per session. An uneven, chunky grind wastes material in the middle of every piece; a good grinder pays for itself.
Choosing a Herb Grinder
Two-piece or four-piece?
Two-piece grinders are compact and simple: teeth, a twist, done. Four-piece models add a sieve and a kief-catching bottom chamber that collects the potent, powdery trichomes that would otherwise be lost, worth having if you value every last bit of your herb. For pocket carry, two-piece; for home, four-piece.
Materials
Aluminium grinders with anodised finishes are the sweet spot: sharp, durable teeth, smooth action and easy cleaning. Plastic grinders are fine as emergency spares but dull quickly. Whatever you choose, look for magnetic lids, they prevent spills in a pocket or bag.
Grind consistency for vaporizers
Vaporizers prefer a medium-fine, fluffy grind, finer than you'd use for rolling but not powder. Most quality grinders land there naturally; a light touch, grinding until resistance fades rather than forcing it, does the rest.
Caring for Your Grinder
Resin builds up on any grinder over time. A soak in isopropyl alcohol followed by a rinse and thorough dry brings an aluminium grinder back to new in ten minutes, and doing it every few weeks keeps the action smooth and the flavour clean.
